Ever since I was a kid, trains and railroading have been in my blood.  This is a photo album of steam locomotives, diesels, electrics, passenger cars, and other railroading equipment I've seen, visited, and/or rode on over the years outside of Minnesota.  For my Minnesota photos, click HERE.  Click on the picture for the full size photo if you like.

Boone & Scenic Valley Railroad, (Boone, IA)

In September of 1999, me and my friend Martin went to Kansas and back to pick up a railroad switch stand.  On the way back, we stopped by the Boone & Scenic Valley Railroad.  They have quite the operation and a lot of real nice equipment.  I'm gonna have to make it back there someday to ride the trains.

Railfair 2000, (LaCrosse, WI)

In August, 2000 me and my friend Martin attended Railfair 2000.  Twice a year, The 4000 Foundation puts on two train sales/swap meets to raise money to restore Burlington Route #4000.  In the summer each year, they have a swap meet in Copeland Park in La Crosse, WI right by Burlington Route #4000.  The railroad (BNSF & CP) also have displays during the day.

Museum of the American Railroad (Dallas, TX)

Formerly known as the Age of Steam Railway Museum, we visited the Museum of the American Railroad in February, 2003.  One of the highlights is Union Pacific Big Boy #4018, only one of eight surviving Big Boys that are on display.

Manitou & Pikes Peak Cog Railway (Manitou Springs, CO)

I visited the Pike's Peak Cog Railway back when I was ten in the Summer of 1978.  I again visited it in my twenties and then a third time with my wife in May, 2003.

Grand Canyon Railway (Williams, AZ)

In May, 2003 we also visited the Grand Canyon Railway out of Williams, AZ.  They were still operating steam locomotives at the time.  Since then, the railroad has changed owners and no longer runs steam, only diesel locomotives.  I feel privileged that we got a chance to ride to the Canyon when they still used steam.

California State Railroad Museum (Sacramento, CA)

June of 2003 brought me and my wife to one of the nicest railway museums I've ever seen.  The California State Railroad Museum has a number of historic items, including the only remaining Warbonnet F-units of the Santa Fe that are still "original," as well as the only surviving Southern Pacific Cab Forward Steam Locomotive.

Illinois Railway Museum (Union, IL)

One of the largest railroad museums around, we got to visit the Illinois Railway Museum in May, 2004.  You easily need two days or more to see everything they have.  In addition to Milwaukee Road #265, they have the Nebraska Zephyr, a UP Turbine, and much more.

Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania and the Strasburg Railroad (Strasburg, PA)

We visited the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania and the Strasburg Railroad in June, 2004.  Being right across the street from one another, you can't visit the one without the other.  The museum is amazing, and with a working railroad right across the street, it's a place you MUST visit.

We visited another beautiful museum, the Virginia Museum of Transportation in June, 2004.  Home of N&W #611 and #1218, it was a rare treat to see two such famous locomotives as them side by side.
